Mining in the age of climate crisis
The De Beers Group is on its way to becoming a miner and marketer of carbon-neutral diamonds.
In the latest episode of Voices of Africa, Marcus Courage speaks to Kirsten Hund, Head of Carbon Neutrality at De Beers Group. This discussion explores how the world’s largest diamond producer is setting out to achieve carbon neutrality – by 2030 – at its mines in Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa, as well as in its other operations across the diamond pipeline around the world.
“Achieving a just transition is about new opportunities and what a green economic future offers us and society. It goes beyond producing solar panels; it’s about entrepreneurship, circularity. It’s about what jobs we actually create and how we equip people with the skills they need.”
