Energy justice and transformation in Africa
Marcus speaks to Elizabeth Wangeci Chege, Energy Efficiency and Cooling Specialist at Sustainable Energy for All, who has worked on the continent and at a global scale to shape national green policy for the built environment, advocating for climate resilience and a sustainable future for African cities.
“Noting that Africa’s demand for power is projected to surge in the coming decades, twice the power will be needed by 2030 and eight times by 2050. This will be driven by the population increase that we’ve spoken about, and also by the industrialization of African countries. At the same time, this presents an opportunity to decarbonise and really respond to the climate crisis.”
