Liquified natural gas

Guiding economic transformation in Mozambique

Services

Our client

Africa Practice was retained by a global energy major which is developing a transformative, multi-billion dollar Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) project in Mozambique.

The client’s mission

Our client needed help understanding key political economy issues, and identifying influential stakeholders at the national, provincial and district levels, to drive energy sector transformation and policy alignment as it planned a series of socio-economic investments.

Our support

Africa Practice provided a range of insights-driven analysis and advisory to enhance the client’s understanding of complex and shifting on-the-ground political and stakeholder dynamics, and how best to navigate and manage key relationships. Our support included:

  • Political economy analysis
  • Political, economic, security and other market risk assessment
  • Stakeholder mapping
  • Partner identification and profiling
  • Scenario-based planning

The results

Africa Practice’s combination of political economy insights and stakeholder engagement recommendations informed the client’s plans to promote socio-economic development beyond the LNG sector. Our work was also harnessed by the client as it responded to an independent review, which recommended shifts in engagement with the Mozambican defence forces and the host community, and as it navigated an important electoral period.
